L'oreal Magic Perfecting Base Face PrimerI’ve recently been trying drugstore primers and came across the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base Face Primer.  I purchased the primer at Walmart for about $10.00 in the US, the jar is 0.5 fl oz.

L’Oreal claims that the product:

  • Smoothes lines.
  • Hides pores.
  • Banishes imperfections

The description of the product is as follows:

Discover the secret to perfect skin texture. Introducing Magic Perfecting Base for instant smoothing results. Get the perfect skin texture, instantly and all day. The silky, lightweight formula glides onto skin and minimizes the look of pores and fine lines. Skin feels smooth to the touch. The result—a unified matte finish that’s flawless. Suitable for all skin types. Dermatologist tested. Non-comedogenic.

L'oreal Magic Perfecting Base Face PrimerMy first impression of the product was that the packaging was elegant, and I really liked the glass jar.  Although after using the product I wasn’t fond of the jar and think that it would be a lot better if it was in a tube or a pump.

Right when I opened the jar I smelled it, like I always do when I purchase products.  The Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base is scentless, so that made me happy as scented products bother me.

I tested the product on my hand at first and really liked how easily it applied and how it made my hand look and feel smooth like a baby’s bottom.  The primer feels very smooth to the touch, it’s consistency almost reminds me of mousse.

It was hard to figure out how much product to use when applying as you just dip your fingers into the jar.  I started with a small amount and built it up to prevent over doing it.  You are suppose to blend the product into your face in a circular motion for an even application.  In some areas the primer would blend nicely into my skin but in areas it would ball up into this white residue.  After trying it several times using less and more product I had the same problem over and over again.  I had to wipe away the residue with a tissue which was annoying.

I didn’t really think that it smoothed out my imperfections and fine lines which was disappointing.  As I get older I am always looking for products to help hide my lines under my eyes and forehead and this product did not help at all with that.

L'oreal Magic Perfecting Base Face PrimerI tried wearing the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base Face Primer under both my bareMinerals MATTE Foundation and Revlon Colorstay.  I didn’t really notice a difference in how my foundation applied, it seemed to apply pretty much the same with or without the primer.

I’ve never been one to reapply my makeup throughout the day and didn’t notice a difference in how long my foundation stayed on throughout the day when wearing the primer.

I’ve worn the primer on and off again for the past few weeks and haven’t noticed any breakouts which is good news because my skin is sensitive.  Some products tend to make my t-zone oily and the primer did not do that so that was a plus.

Overall I don’t really recommend the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base Face Primer as it really didn’t do anything for me.  I didn’t notice any difference in my makeup when wearing it.

What are your thoughts on the Magic Perfecting Base Face Primer?  What are your favorite primers?
